We often need to mount equipment to hold it in the correct position using a mounting arm. The option that we most often use is the Manfrotto Variable Friction Arm. In this video we’re going to have a quick look at how to set this up safely. You will need a mounting arm, a clamp and a mounting plate. To attach the mounting arm to a surface you will use a compatible clamp. We use the Manfrotto Super Clamp. The arm attaches to the clamp when you release this stud. To secure it, tighten this handle. To mount a controller, joystick or accessibility switch, you will need an appropriate and compatible mounting plate. We use this triangular plate as it fits both the controllers and switches we use. Before using the plate we’ll tighten the thread to make sure it won’t spin while being used. This can now be threaded onto the mounting arm.
To secure the equipment onto the mounting plate, we use either Velcro, or if we want firmer bond, we use Dual Lock. To fix the clamp and arm to a surface, turn the handle if you need a wider gap, then get the clamp into position and turn the same handle to fix it in place. You may want to remove this wedge in the middle to fix it to the edge of a table or a rounded surface. To position the equipment make sure you’re supporting both parts of the arm before releasing this handle which will loosen all three of these joints. You’ll need to continue to support the weight of the arm while positioning it, before locking it into place. Once you have the equipment in the position that you’ll want to use it, tighten the handle again, which will fix all three joints again and give you a rigid arm. And now with some Velcro on the back of your preferred controller or piece of gaming equipment, you can fix it on the mounting plate.
