Using a 3.5 mm Joystick on the Hori Flex | HID Remapper v8

The HID Remapper v8 allows players to convert a joystick with a 3.5 mm connection for use on game controller interfaces that require joysticks to have a USB connection, such as the Hori Flex. This can open up a wider range of joystick options for players.

The Hori Flex is a controller interface that lets you create a customised set-up by connecting compatible joysticks and accessibility switches and positioning them where they are most accessible and comfortable for an individual to play with.

The HID Remapper v8 device is part of the open source HID Remapper project by Jacek Fedoryński, and includes DIY instructions for putting your own device together. The specific device shown and referred to in this post, is a version that has been made available to purchase by OneSwitch as a finished product.

Some of the joysticks we use at SpecialEffect that are suitable for use with the HID Remapper v8 are:

To use the HID Remapper v8, plug your compatible joystick into it, then plug it into your Hori Flex. Wait for 1 second and then it can be used. If the joystick drifts in-game or in the menus, unplug the HID Remapper v8 and reconnect it.

The HID Remapper v8 can also be used with some other controller interfaces such as an Xbox Adaptive Controller (XAC). However, the XAC already has two connections for joysticks with a 3.5 mm connection. For those looking for an option for the Access controller on PlayStation 5 that reverses this conversion, ie enables you to use a USB joystick through the Access Controller’s 3.5 mm inputs, the HID Remapper v7 is available.
