How to Mount and Position Switches and Controllers | How to… Video

0:03 Here at SpecialEffect we use a variety of different external switches

0:06 with people who cannot use the standard buttons on their keyboard or controller

0:09 These switches are really useful because they enable us to position them in a space

0:14 where they can easily and comfortably be pressed

0:16 This is with the head, the feet,

0:18 the hands. Or any part of the body that is most appropriate for the person in question

0:22 The type of switch we use depends on

0:25 where the switch is going to be positoned and also

0:27 the amount of strength that the person has to press the switch

0:33 The main switches we use at SpecialEffect are Spec Switches,

0:36 Buddy Buttons and Ultra Light Switches

0:39 We use all of these with different parts of the body and decide which one to use depending on the space

0:43 and also the amount of force the person is able to use to push them

0:53 So there are many ways that we position and mount our switches

0:56 the most common thing we use is velcro

0:59 which we use to attach different switches to mounts and different surfaces

1:07 so when we are using different switches

1:10 postioning is really important. We need to make sure that they are in a position

1:13 that the person can easily and comfortbaly press them.

1:16 We also need to make sure that

1:19 switch is going to remain in that position every time we they want to play

1:22 Mounting can help stabilise these switches

1:27 This video will take you through some of the ways we position them

2:58 So we often use similar mounting techniques for controllers

3:01 Whether to give someone access

3:03 to the whole controller or just one joystick

3:07 Like switches, this involves using velcro

3:10 or quite often we use Dual Lock

3:13 because this gives a stronger bond

3:16 Sometimes we will use a Manfrotto variable friction arm

3:20 We will occasionally use these for mounting switches

3:25 but quite often we will use them for mounting controllers

3:28 If we need something a little bit more lightweight we

3:31 will use a Manfrotto Lightweight arm

3:33 with a slightly smaller clamp, called a Nano Clamp

4:34 We hope that you found this video helpful

4:36 for trying out your own mounting solutions

Holding a controller or a switch can be difficult for some people , so here’s a quick overview of some of the ways we keep our setups firmly in place and give better access to video games.
