SimAbility’s F1 Paddles for Thrustmaster Ferrari F1 Wheel | How to… Video

Show Transcript

Here at SpecialEffect we spend a lot of time looking at how to make racing games more accessible for people. One of the questions we’re frequently asked is “how can I use a racing wheel without having to use my feet for the pedals?” There are a few different options for this out there, which we have looked at in previous videos. In this video we’re going to be looking at the F1 paddles made by SimAbility for the Thrustmaster Ferrari F1 wheel. The Ferrari F1 wheel is an add-on wheel created by Thrustmaster. It can be added to the T500, T300 and TX racing wheel series. It can be attached using Thrustmaster’s quick-release system. The wheel is a full-size replica of the F1 Ferrari 2011 racing wheel under official license by Ferrari. The wheel has F1 style brushed metal push-pull shifters. This wheel can be used on PS4, Xbox One, PC and PS3. You just need to have the appropriate wheel base. SIMAbility are a company based in the US that make adaptive controls for racing wheels. When you order the F1 paddles, you will see the F1 paddle unit which has carbon fibre, gas and brake paddles. You will also get mini connector box, connector cable. There are some printed instructions in the box as well. The F1 paddles are the most simple paddles to install that SIMAbility make. They simply attach to the back of the racing wheel using double-sided sticky tape. You do not need any tools to install this. The analogue paddle on the right acts as your accelerator. You cannot adjust the distance required to pull the paddle fully. To accelerate fully you need to be able to pull the paddle a reasonable distance. The analogue paddle on the left acts as your brake. The amount you have to pull this paddle can be adjusted. Once you have followed the instructions and attached the paddles, attach the wheel to the wheel base, plug the wheel base into the mains and into the console. You are now ready to play. When the wheel is first plugged in it will spin rapidly, so make sure you keep clear and keep any wires out of the way so it can spin freely. The F1 wheel has the standard controller buttons on it so you can navigate through game menus. The buttons that you need will vary depending on the game you are playing. You can use this system on any racing game that is compatible with the Thrustmaster wheel base. The amount of force feedback coming through the wheel can be adjusted on a PC using Thrustmaster software. Racing wheels do require a certain amount of strength and movement to be able to use them effectively. Thank you for watching this video. If you have any questions about racing wheels or accessible gaming in general, please contact SpecialEffect.
