Yoshi’s Crafted World | Controls Walkthrough Video

In this video Nomi takes a look at the controls for Yoshi’s Crafted World on the Nintendo Switch.

In this video we take a look at Yoshi’s Crafted World [PEGI 3]. The game has some accessibility features which could make the game more accessible to a wider range of players.

The game also features a two-player option which means you and a friend can play as two Yoshis and work together to solve the puzzles on each level. Before starting the game, you are presented with the option of choosing Mellow Mode or Classic Mode. For both options the levels are identical.

Mellow Mode

Mellow Mode gives Yoshi wings which enables you to continuously fly throughout the level making it a slightly easier, more relaxed experience. Eating Shy Guys gives you two eggs instead of one and you also take less damage from any enemy. In Mellow Mode there’s a smiley indicator that will flash and rumble slightly to let you know when you’re near one of the smiley flowers which are some of the collectables within the game. Mellow Mode also enables invisible question mark clouds to become visible. An aspect of the accessibility options is that you can turn Mellow Mode on or off at any point in time even within the level itself by pausing the game and changing the play style to Mellow Mode.

Basic controls

A = Jump- you can press A, release A and press Jump again to be able to hover or flutter jump. Press and hold A to fly in Mellow mode.

L/ZL = Crouch (you can also crouch by pushing the down direction on the left joystick or D-Pad)

B = Gobble.

A and L/ZL/Left Stick Down = Ground pound

Classic Mode

Classic Mode means that Yoshi doesn’t have any wings, so you’ll have to jump and eat more enemies throughout the level. You’ll have to explore more to find the smiley flowers and winged clouds and enemies cause more damage than Mellow Mode.

Gameplay

Yoshi can eat a variety of enemies including Koopa Troopas and Shy Guys. Eggs can be made from eating enemies or from egg coloured boxes.

Some puzzles require you to throw eggs at question mark clouds. To do so you just press the X button to aim move the joystick and press X again. In the Controller Settings there’s also a Hasty option for Egg Tossing. This option means you’re just pressing X, using the joystick to aim and releasing X to fire. This makes it slightly quicker.

Unlike Shy Guys, Koopa Troopas can be eaten by pressing B and spat out again by pressing B.

Settings

Within the Controller Settings you can also have three different options for button layouts: types A, B and C.

Type AA is Jump, B for Gobble and X for Throw Egg.

Type BA is Throw Egg, B is Jump and Y is Gobble.

Type C –  B is Jump, X is Throw Egg and Y is Gobble.

In the Controller Settings you can also adjust the Rumble Intensity. You can select Rumble On or Off and also adjust the intensity from Normal, Gentle to Very Gentle. The main menu can be opened by pressing +. You can use the left stick to move up and down the menu and press A and B to select or cancel. You can also use the D-pad instead of left stick to navigate through menus. To make navigating the worlds easier, you can zoom in and out of the main map by pressing X. To choose the course you want to start, you can press the Y.

Two-Player mode

You can also select two players within the menu and that enables two players to play within the same level cooperatively. In two player mode you can piggyback ride and the game becomes a two-button game where one player does the jumping, walking and eating and another player can eat and throw eggs.
